Cristal Video pre-processing unit

Operation
The Cristal connects to the system between the camera and the monitor (or recording device). It operates by means of a combination of techniques: · The application of variable amounts of gain to the video signal · The formation of a rolling average of the incoming video · The subtraction of an image of the reference background noise from the camera sensor. The application of increased gain (up to x150) to a video signal will allow low level signals to be viewed on a monitor. Unfortunately this technique alone is not sufficient to allow a daylight camera to operate at night as the signal to noise ratio generated by the sensor in low light conditions is comparatively high. The use of a rolling average extracts a useable signal from what is predominantly "system noise" at the low light levels at which the system is intended to operate. The subtraction of "fixed pattern noise" generated by the sensor, also enhances the quality of the displayed image. The subtraction of a reference image may also be used to show up movement in a scene.
